Job Description

In this Transport Planning role, you’ll be responsible for evaluating, planning, and coordinating transportation and routes for a fleet of 20 3.5t vehicles and 6 third-party logistics (3PL) partners, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of goods from suppliers to customers’ residential addresses. You will develop daily transportation plans, ensuring routes are achievable within operational hours, and collaborate with customers and managers to understand their transportation needs while promptly relaying any issues to management. Analyzing traffic patterns to identify potential road issues and recommending improvements will be key, as will creating cost-effective, time-efficient route maps and schedules. You’ll also manage communication with 3PL carriers, organizing inbound deliveries to ensure optimal transport services. Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external clients, partners, and suppliers, as well as managing contracts and agreements, will be essential. Additionally, you’ll track key performance metrics, such as delivery times and costs, adjusting plans as needed, while ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations. Staying updated on emerging transportation technologies will also be important for driving continuous improvements.

Experience & Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a solid level of secondary education, including English and Mathematics as core subjects and hands-on experience with transportation planning software, ideally within a similar environment and fleet size. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, effective communication, and a good understanding of industry trends, environmental regulations, and traffic management policies are essential. A commitment to equality, diversity, health, and safety is required, along with a sound understanding of HR procedures and the regulatory requirements related to Operator Licenses, DVSA, DVLA, and Traffic Commissioner roles, particularly regarding vehicle maintenance and compliance.
